Who we are
A card room that grew a roof over it.
In 1974 Margaret Vance ran a four-table card room out of a failing ski lift office at the bottom of Elk Hollow. The lift never reopened. The card room never closed.
Fifty-one years later there are 168 rooms above it, a kitchen that smokes its own trout, and a stone hearth in the middle of the gaming floor that the fire marshal has grudgingly approved eleven times. We are still family-run. We still take the last table of the night.
Comfort Lodge sits at 8,940 feet, forty minutes from Eagle County Regional and ten minutes from the Elk Hollow lifts. Come for the snow, stay for the felt, or the other way around.

Every room has a real quilt, a deep tub, and blackout curtains that mean it. Rates are per night, two guests, before tax and the county's 3% lodging levy.
All stays include valet, the morning shuttle to the lifts, and $25 in free play per adult.

We smoke trout and elk in a shed behind the kennels. Nearly everything on these menus passes through it at some point.
The Vance Room

Margaret's dining room, still on the second floor, still looking down the valley. Chef Lucia Serrano cooks mountain food with a French hand: things braised a long time, sauces that took two days, and a trout that comes off our own smoker.
Smokehouse 74
11 AM – 11 PM daily · Walk in, no reservations, ever
Trays, butcher paper, and a line that moves. Everything comes off the same offset smoker that has been running since the building had a dirt floor. Order by the half pound. The brisket runs out most Saturdays by nine.
The Long Bar
Noon – 2 AM · Sixty feet of white oak, salvaged from the lift house
Forty-one whiskies, eight taps from within a hundred miles, and a bartender who will tell you which one is worth it. Food until midnight, and a short menu after that for people who lost track of time.
In-room dining
24 hours · Dial 4 from your room · No tray charge, we think that is tacky
Because sometimes the correct move is a burger, a bath, and a door you do not open again until morning. The full Smokehouse menu runs until eleven; the short menu runs all night.
The lodge
What else is under this roof.
You do not have to gamble to enjoy this place, and plenty of our guests never once sit down at a table. There is no wrong way to spend a weekend at 8,940 feet.
The Hollow Spa
Eight treatment rooms, a cedar sauna, and two spring-fed soaking pools that stay at 104°F while it snows on your head.
Lift shuttle
Runs to the Elk Hollow base every twenty minutes from 7:30 AM. Ski valet, boot dryers, and a bench by the fire for the last run.
The Antler Hall
A 340-seat room with genuinely good sound. Bluegrass on Thursdays, touring acts on weekends, and a bar at the back.
Indoor pool & hot tubs
Twenty-five metre lap pool under a glass roof, three hot tubs on the deck, and towels that are actually warm.
Dogs stay free
No weight limit, no fee, no side-eye. Beds and bowls in every room on request, and a kennel with a heated run.

Four thousand square feet of flexible space, a catering team that does not cut corners, and a valley view that does the work for you.
